Ok here’s my reasoning why astrology is both a 9H and an 8H subject, and whichever one prevails in your practice depends the lens you’re looking through from your human perception at the time.

There are two distinct differences between the 8th and 9th houses that don’t cover the entirety that is the concept of astrology, which is why there are critical parts about it that bring it to a belonging in both.

So the 9th House is of philosophy, HUMAN thought and pondering and belief and opinion, studies and teachings with a higher purpose, it’s how our experiences meet our conscious mind and how we choose to respond to it moving forward.

The Sun joys in the 9H, the very basis of the house depends on light, awakening, or illumination to the higher mind, formed from a personal awareness of our experiences, life force and sense of self.

The 8th House is BEYOND thought. Its what's hidden from the human consciousness, the unconscious, the unseen darkness, the underworld, it’s what we go through and instinctively respond to whether we’re aware of it or not.

The 8H is also death, power and control dynamics, and our deep personal/instinctual resistance, acceptance, or surrender to the unchangeable enforcements of life.

This is the very purpose and effect astrology and its transits have on us as beings.

Much like Death, Astrology is an inevitable truth and cycle of life.

The 8H is how our soul, bound to physicality, processes and evolves through its experiences as an earthly life form. It’s the ‘steam engine’ of the chart. It’s a deep, primal mechanism of life.

The 8H drives the evolutionary journey of the soul, the 9H conceptualises it.

The 8H is also the transformation and the process of transmuting/morphing energy from one form to another, whether that manifests a large event like death, or smaller every day events. It’s transfer of energy.

So this is why 8H links in with death, and also with other peoples resources because when resources are given to you or become shared it is transferred. Its energetic makeup transforms from the point it changes contexts and control.

The 8H and Astrology is what drives and transforms us as an underlying apparatus of existence. Transits and chart interactions are the catalyst for it, the gears that keep the machine running.

The eternal, cyclical nature of astrology transforms our living energy.

The 9H is the realisation and formed belief built upon 8H matters.

You can see this in spiritual/religious beliefs of what happens after death, the afterlife, etc.

9H is how we acknowledge and cope with the inexorable influence of the 8H, as human beings with conscious mind.

9H is what comes after the experiences of the 8H in form of spiritual beliefs, studies, and soul searching. It’s how we, as humans, personify or make sense of it all.

The 8H is what astrology DOES to us, The 9H is what astrology IS to us.

Before anything about astrology was discovered and came to light, it was purely an 8H subject, working in the background and influencing us outside of our awareness.

When humans began becoming aware of it studying it, teaching it, developing it, and forming beliefs based upon it, it became co-ruled by the 9H.

To expand a bit further; the 8H is deeply psychological and rules over all the inner processes of our psyche that we are consciously unaware of, this includes trauma and trauma responses as well, so psychological/evolutionary astrology is very much an 8H topic. The hidden depths.

BUT, that self awareness and ability to delve into the hidden depths of our psychology wouldn’t be possible without the light of the 9H.

The journey, discovery, research and study that enlightens one and builds systems of understanding is what brings it to the forefront and gives us the gift of sight, and the potential to improve on it.

So with that being said I hope this thread helps illustrate exactly how 8H and 9H themes go hand in hand, that they are intertwined and work together. Especially when it comes to the concept of astrology!
